Broccoli Thoran


Broccoli is a very nutritious vegetable. Most people hate it for its taste but try this recipe
, you will change your mind. I came across this recipe from the blog pepper delight, have made slight changes to the recipe.

Ingredients
  • Broccoli  -  1 nos
  • Red cow peas -  1/2 cup
  • Salt  -  to taste 
To grind
  • Grated coconut  -  1/2 cup
  • Shallots  -  2 nos
  • Green chillies  -  1 or 2
  • Jeera  -  1/4 tsp
  • Garlic  - 1 pod
  • Curry leaves  -  1 spring 
  • Turmeric powder  -  1/4 tsp 
To temper
  • Oil  -  1 or 2 tsp
  • Mustard  -  1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves - a few
  • Dried red chilli  -  1 nos
Method
  • Boil water, add cleaned broccoli florets and 1/2 tsp salt and cook covered for 3 to 4 minutes. Drain water and add cold water. Drain and keep aside 
  • Pressure cook cow peas with a little salt for 1 whistle or till done. Drain and keep aside.
  • Coarsely grind the items under to grind table, keep aside. 
  • Heat oil in a kadai, add items under to temper table let it splutter. 
  • Add broccoli and saute for 1 minute
  • Add cooked cow peas and coconut mixture, combine everything nicely, check for salt and cook covered for few minutes. 
  • Serve hot.
